Homeowner, Dwelling & Other Property Losses

In the event of a property loss, such as a structure fire, natural disaster or a water damage claim, here are some tips on what should be done:

First and foremost, if it involves a fire, get everyone out of the house and accounted for.
Notify the Fire Department
Everyone should be familiar with an escape route and meeting place.
If anyone is injured and in danger, move them to safety, provide immediate first aid assistance if qualified and call for emergency services.

Damage to building
Make “reasonable” emergency repairs to prevent further damage. The claims adjuster will discuss coverage issues with you and authorize any repairs. Your adjuster will want to communicate with the contractor before any permanent repairs are actually done.

Loss of personal property
You must document such things as the make and serial numbers, descriptions, etc., along with establishing the value to the items. Pictures, videos, lists, sales receipts, credit bill statements and all helpful. The adjuster will advise you further.
